Are formulas converted or their results?

Their results. The tool reads the calculated values stored in the file, which is what you would see on screen.

What happens to a very wide table?

Choose landscape orientation, or a larger page size such as A3. Columns that still do not fit are scaled down to keep the whole row on one page.
