What to expect from the outputThis produces a PDF/A-oriented file, not a certified one. Full PDF/A conformance also requires every font used in the document to be fully embedded, which a browser cannot add if the source file did not include them. Validate the output with a tool such as veraPDF before submitting it where certified conformance is mandatory.

About this tool

PDF/A is the ISO standard for documents that must still open correctly decades from now. This tool applies the archival requirements it can: it embeds an sRGB output intent, writes the XMP identification metadata and removes features the standard forbids.

Frequently asked questions

Will the output pass a PDF/A validator?

It may, if the source file already embeds all of its fonts. Where fonts are only referenced rather than embedded, no browser-based tool can supply them — that step needs desktop software with access to the font files.

Which conformance level should I pick?

PDF/A-2b is the usual choice for general archiving. Pick PDF/A-1b only if a specific institution requires it.
